Decision basis
2023 EITI Standard, Section 1 of Part 2 - Article 8

Board decision

The EITI Board agreed to maintain the suspension of São Tomé and Príncipe for an additional 12 months given the lack of extractive industry activities in the country and the ongoing low-level engagement of São Tomé and Príncipe with the EITI. In extending the suspension period, the Board recognises the commitment of the Government of São Tomé and Príncipe to EITI implementation. The extended period of suspension would allow stakeholders the opportunity to follow up on political commitment to the EITI to take tangible steps to progress EITI implementation, or to explore an approach for implementation that is commensurate with the lack of extractive industry activities in the country. If no significant activities are forthcoming after two years of suspension, the Board may consider delisting São Tomé and Príncipe.
